Classes

Master Class - Master Classes will have an average of 3 students per class who will be scheduled according to book level and age.  The Master Class is a semi-private lesson setting with each child working on their piece(s) to improve musicianship, technique, phrasing, dynamics, articulations, etc.   Parents are expected to attend as each student will have an assignment to practice for the following day.  Auditors, trainees and other students/parents are welcome to observe.

Repertoire Class - All piano and flute repertoire classes will rehearse music to be performed in the final concert.  All music for this class should be memorized and prepared ahead of time.  Students will be scheduled according to book level and a list of repertoire pieces will be sent out no later than April.

Flute Explorations - A combination class of technique and repertoire.  Geared for the Book 1-4 students, they will cover anything and everything including: warm-up excercises, 20th Century techniques for tone, breathing, composers, repertoire, challenge games, memorization tricks and all-important flute trivia!

Flute Ensemble - Led by Nancy Toone, our 2011 flute ensembles will be an institute favorite!  From beginner to advanced levels, students will rehearse and perform ensemble works specifically written for multiple flutes.  Piccolos and alto flutes (bass flute, anyone?) are welcome.  All music will be mailed out in May so students can come prepared.  The Flute Ensembles will perform on the Ensemble Extravaganza concert Thursday Evening.

Piano Ensemble - A unique opportunity awaits our piano students.....the opportunity to play in a large ensemble!  Students will rehearse and perform pieces  written for 2-6 parts (determined by reading ability).  Repertoire will be mailed out in May so students can come prepared.  The Piano Ensembles will perform on the Ensemble Extravaganza concert Thursday Evening.

Piano Games - A combination class of repertoire and technique.  Students will work on their repertoire pieces for the final concert using technique, tone and musicianship games.  Fingerings, phrasing, dynamics, articulations and more will be worked on.  An innovative, 'think outside the box' class.

Music Mind Games:Parent Edition - Calling all parents who are non-readers, barely-there readers or "my child is ahead of me" readers.  This fun and extremely helpful class will catch you up with your reading skills and basic music knowledge.  Led by Joyce Bennett, you will enjoy her creativity and levity as you explore the world of note reading, rhythms and music terms.  Come with your questions, frustrations, your child's music book and a notebook.  Most of all,  be prepared to become musically empowered!
